This leads to that. That leads to this. We are all just trying to put the pieces together, to see what fits. To find the moments where we know, we feel, we are not alone. To give meaning to what crosses our paths. To make it all make sense. To fill the void. To hold on.

Glass does this for me. It shows me who I am, what I can do and how my hands can affect the outcome. Working with hot glass, in the very team-oriented shop, where trust and communication are essential, helps me to see how my presence, my actions, my words can influence those around me, how we are all connected, all suffering, all bound by the same laws of physics, all facing our own limitations, all trying to reach our full potential, all part of a whole, all heading to the same place in the end, all fleeting.

This show is a collection of some of the connections that have shaped me. Each object holds within in it a memory, a piece of someone from my life, a relic, a small part of me and my journey, eternally immortalized in the magical substrate of glass. Each bottle emptied amongst friends, on good days, alone on bad days, collected out of a pure love of glass and all the glorious shapes it takes. Each photograph, a moment captured saved for later, first on 35mm film, burned into the silver, then turned into glass through a complicated process that was just for me, and just as much about what is removed as what is added. Each little object collected as souvenirs of friendships, still missed in my heart, arranged to tell bedtime stories to my little sister, miles away from me now. All these collections help me feel close to all those I love and teach me about myself.

Such a vibrant community of very different talented artists here in Sturgeon Bay, WI. I am grateful to be a part of it! My studio space at the Tambourine Lounge is a sanctuary and a blessing, a safe space to retreat and work out ideas to build and grow as an artist.
